Best laid plans…
2024 was the year I travelled a lot – Greece, Jordan, Egypt, India, Canada and the US. By the third quarter of the year, I was feeling pretty thrilled with the prospect of being on the move again once my surgery was done.
When it was finally decided that the surgery would take place early December, I began calculating how long it would take me to recover and if I could make a trip for my upcoming 55th birthday – a big milestone..well, at least for me. At first, I thought I’d go home to celebrate with my children. But hearing of their endless agendas put me off. So, I decided on London or Amsterdam. I was so excited, just waiting for the doctor to give me the go ahead by the end of December, and heigh ho, by the third week of January 2025, I would be gone.
But fate had other plans for me. Instead of giving me the green signal, my doctor gave me the news that another surgery was imminent, one that they had not foreseen. And she told me the worst news ever – “you cannot travel now”. When I mentioned my upcoming birthday, she gave me even better news – that I’d probably be in the hospital on that day.
And lo and behold, by the first week of January, I was called to admit myself on my birthday for my major surgery the next day. Ha, what a nice slap….best laid plans did indeed go to hell !!
Moral – don’t wait for a time or event – just go as the flow takes you. You’ll probably have an even better time that you imagined… when it’s unplanned.
