The Complicated Road

The musings of a traveller on life's complicated roads

It couldn’t happen here and my sister

Growing up with the Pet Shop Boys

As a teenager, my sister was besotted with the Pet Shop Boys. And they were a hit everywhere – excellent, brilliant catchy music and lyrics.

On my last trip home, I found a CD of PSB (Actually) at a quaint second-hand store. Two hectic months later, I finally got a chance to listen to the CD while on my way home. Track 6 – “It couldn’t happen here”;  lesser-known but one of my all-time favourites of theirs. I loved it then, and I still love it (so melancholic). I had tears in my heart and eyes as I felt myself trying to remember any of the lyrics (lol, I only know the refrain which is the title). How time flies…memories remain. I guess more than the song, is the image in my mind’s eye, of my sister sitting right in front of the TV, watching that movie of theirs (same name as the track), and no matter how many times she saw it, she always watched it with awe. Simpler times, simpler pleasures, priceless memories.
